God can work miracles with even a small offering and promises to care for all your needs. When you give, you are blessed in return. No matter how much or how little you have to give, the Lord calls us to give what we can based on our ability. Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD your God that He has given you. They shall not appear before the LORD empty-handed. When we remember where our wealth comes from, our hearts will be in the right place and we’ll remember the value of giving. But this scripture reminds us that it is the Lord who gives us the ability to make money and become prosperous. When we become wealthy, it can be tempting to take credit. Deuteronomy 8:18īut remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today. In all cases, the Lord is looking for giving from the heart, not out of rule-following obligation. In the Old Testament, we see all the congregation and people of Go giving to build the temple. He was priest of God Most High, and he blessed Abram, saying, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. And the Lord was pleased with this offering. Adam’s son Abel was a shepherd and he brought God the first and best of his flock. When we bring offerings to the Lord, we acknowledge that everything we have is from God. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offeringįrom the beginning, bringing our offerings to the Lord has been an act of worship and sign of dependence and gratitude. When we bring our tithes and offerings, we’re acknowledging that everything we have is a gift from God.
